Trump's insatiable appetite for revenge has swiftly morphed into a methodical framework. During the past year, the chief executive's rage and whims have assumed the form of official policies similar to reminiscent to past repressive regimes. Justice department personnel who fail to comply are summarily dismissed and substituted by supporters. Political leaders who confront him risk indictment, judicial process and penalties. Critics have been categorized under administration directives as “hostile to national interests”, “against faith communities” and “against free markets”, and warned with legal action as “security threats”.
Government Institutions Restructured
Each situation involving prosecution of critics and protection for loyalists demonstrates its own unique characteristics. But, despite their particular nature, they exemplify examples of what has arisen as a deliberate technique. Those episodes are far from coincidental. The administration's cleansing of Department of Justice lawyers and FBI officials, coupled with his appointment of supporters in key posts, began swiftly, soon developed a pattern, and has now been molded into a structure. Federal prosecutors and the Federal Bureau have been transformed into partisan bodies under the president's explicit orders to execute his demands. Injustice has been rendered normal. This is the system of punishment.
Administration is preoccupied with penalizing the leader's supposed adversaries than they are with safeguarding our national security.
Inside the Structure
The foundation of this system has been uncovered in the court filing of several previous senior Federal Bureau agents submitted in September in the US district court in DC against FBI director Kash Patel and top lawyer another official for unlawful firing in “a effort of revenge against the officials for what Defendants considered to be a refusal to exhibit proper political loyalty”. According to the filing that a former acting director, the ex- interim leader, details a exchange in which he “openly confessed the impropriety of his behavior”.
The official had tried to defend agency personnel from being dismissed, the filing alleges. He informed him that “they” – interpreted by the official to be the presidential administration and federal prosecutors – had directed him to fire anyone who they determined as having participated in a legal probe against Trump. The document continues: “He explained that he had to terminate the people his leaders told him to remove, because his capacity to keep his own role depended on the dismissal of the agents who were involved in matters involving the leader. He commented that there was no option he or the official could do to stop these or any other firings, because ‘the FBI sought to place the President in prison and he recalls it clearly.’” When the official advised him he was disregarding the FBI's own policies, Patel supposedly said “he understood that and he was aware the character of the immediate dismissals were probably illegal”.
Extensive Impact
Following the director's alleged acknowledgment to the official, the justice department and the FBI have been dismantled and reorganized for his retribution system. Several of the agency's high-ranking agents were fired or pushed out in the early weeks of the government. About 4,500 lawyers at the justice department have accepted a “deferred resignation program”. A minimum of several government attorneys, such as those in the New York office, resigned in objection over what they regarded as partisan influence in withdrawing the legal action against the local official, the mayor, in return for his cooperation with the administration's ICE roundups of migrants. The public integrity section of the justice department, which manages misconduct investigations, has been diminished to a handful of lawyers. The civil rights division has been decimated: seventy percent of its employees has left. A third of senior leaders at the justice department have quit. The unit implementing conservation statutes has lost 50% its supervisors.
Favors and Punishments
Regarding the mayor's situation, the acting US attorney for the southern district of New York, the official, stepped down in dissent against what she labeled as the “trade-off”. A key figure, the president's “enforcement chief,” showed up as the implementer with Adams on television to state: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll reappear in the city.”. And, another figure, formerly the justice department figure and a ex-lawyer, who arranged the agreement, was awarded an judicial position, a potential springboard to the highest court.
The president's immunity for offenses committed while in power, provided by the extraordinary decision of the conservative on the highest court, thus thwarting his criminal case over the political violence and maintaining his electoral prospects for the national vote, is the foundation stone on which he depends to protect his supporters. Under these circumstances, he has been liberated to enable wrongdoing. The effect of the court judgment permeates his government and the GOP thoroughly. Trump v United States has metastasized. In the words of the former president's legal adviser he commented about the Watergate
